How to manage your Amazon business


When you initially begin your journey as an Amazon seller, there’s a lot to learn. Alas, it’s not as simple as just popping your products online and watching them sell! With so much to navigate and manage, it would be easy to become overwhelmed with the jungle before you. Breaking Amazon down into bitesize chunks and setting yourself some processes will help. Here are some of our top tips to help you manage your Amazon business, so you’ll see economical and sustainable growth without biting off more than you can chew.


1. Managing your tasks

Start at the beginning. To manage your Amazon business takes planning. Find yourself a CRM program to help you manage all your Amazon tasks. There isn’t a one size fits all, so find a programme that works for you. For example here at Brand Monkey, we currently use Asana to manage our tasks and customer relationships. There are also programs such as Hubspot, Microsoft Dynamics or Salesflare to name a few.

2. Daily checks

Everyday checks should include your Performance and Account Health, customer reviews and any feedback, which includes from Amazon. If any products haven’t got through the screening process and need to be amended it means you catch them straight away and don’t miss out on potential sales due to silly mistakes.


3. Listen to the voice of the customer

With your daily check of customer reviews and feedback, you should check for any patterns of issues. This will help you manage the products you offer, how you present them both online and in person, and how you manage the delivery of your items.

4. Keep an eye on your inventory

Monitor your excess inventory and sell through report. If you stay on top of your inventory levels, you’ll notice if you’re due to pay higher storage fees and it will help you plan for any promotions if some of your stock is slow moving. You can submit 7-day and lightning deals at any time, but this is particularly effective during the big sales events like Prime Day.


5. Weekly checks

As much as we’d love to upload products and find you don’t have to touch them again, this often isn’t the case. You should check all of your products categories weekly as Amazon has a tendency to move them automatically.

6. Monitor your sales monthly

Of course the part we’re most interested in – sales! These should be analysed monthly to see if they’ve dropped or increased. Take some time to understand why and build tasks around this to go deeper with your successes or improve any poorly performing SKUs.


7. Optimise, optimise, optimise!

This should be a weekly, if not daily, occurrence. You should research your PPC search terms constantly and adapt your product listings accordingly. Include those keywords throughout your copy, especially in your product title – the first thing shoppers will see.

Putting in these simple processes will help you in the long run to manage your growth on Amazon.
